Being a victim to cabin fever, at times, I get really stressed out at home because we sometimes snap at each other. This happens even though Mom created a schedule to keep us busy.
As I sit to reflect, the first thing that comes to my mind was the first time I had been introduced to COVID-19. I remember going to school on Friday 13th March, 2020 and being spoken to about this new virus and that we were closing early for our Easter vacation. Like every other kid, the first thought that came to mind was concern and I must admit “freedom”! Little did I know that awaiting me was my teachers and on-line classes.
To my surprise, classes have been quite enjoyable, interactive and has in fact boosted my classmates and my own spirit. It’s been fun that we can still chat with each other and some of us play games online together. Knowing that our teachers have been there especially as we continue to get ready for SEA, whenever that will be, has been a comfort.
Sadly, it has also been hard being cooped up or as the adults say “being a victim to cabin fever”. At times, it gets really stressed out at home because we sometimes snap at each other even though Mom created a schedule to keep us busy. This I think, is actually an opportunity for everyone to learn from each other and the more I understand it the more I appreciate it.
For me, I have realized how much I miss school, my regular routines, teachers and classmates. I did not realize how much I missed it until now as it is that one place where I can express myself and feel my happiest.
The more I heard about COVID-19 it made me think about the Black Plague which wiped out persons in France. It has made me extremely scared hearing about persons who died from the virus in our country and around the world which I heard from the news, conversations at home and online.
This situation has also reminded me that everyone is on the same level and that wealth cannot solve this problem. But if we all unite and practice the right hygiene and protocol, we may have a chance to keep our “white flag” down a.k.a. not surrender ourselves to the virus.
I am currently a student of Bishop Anstey Junior School and in Standard 5. My favourite colour is Lilac, I LOVE to READ and PLAY video games! A weird mix right?! I want to share my own experience, to learn what others may be doing and ultimately have FUN that will make a positive DIFFERENCE IN OTHERS LIVES.
